Google Wave, it’s one of the most anticipated online collaboration tools out there; so,you can understand how glad I was to receive an invite to use it. At first, I couldn’t use it to communicate with anybody else, as the ability to invite others is invite others is initially put on hold for a few new users of Google Wave.

This week however, my ‘Wave’ came to life.Suddenly, I could converse with others and invite others too.So, off I went, and off the bat,I had quite a bit of fun with it.

Firstly,here’s the things I like about it.It’s a bit like Google Chat, only better, in so far as you can chat with others and see what they’re typing as they’re typing (if you’re not a great typist, you might want to consider touching up your typing skills).

What I also like about it is the ability to drag and drop photos and files into your wave whilst chatting, and then having the option to click on the photos in particular to see them in a lightbox type effect.

It’s also nice that you can have a chat with 3 or more people in a wave, and by using the ‘playback’ feature you can trackback your conversations up to a certain point, in what is a kind of replay mode.

In terms of organisation, you can arrange your waves into certain folders for certain reference.You can also add tags to waves whereby you can orgnise your waves into certain caregories.There are even a number of shortcut keys one can use to navigate one’s way through your waves, and by doing such searches as ‘with public’you can see numerous public waves that you can engage

Norway opens world's first osmotic power plant

Norway opened on Tuesday the world's first osmotic power plant, which produces emissions-free electricity by mixing fresh water and sea water through a special me mbrane.

Stare-owned utility Statkraft's prototype plant, which for now will produce a tiny 2 kilowatts of power or enough to run a coffee machine,will enable Statkraft to test and develop the technology needed to drive down production costs.

The plant is driven by osmosis that naturally draws fresh water across a membrane and toward the seawater side.This creates higher pressurie on the sea water side,driving a turbine and producing electricity.

"While salt might not xave the world alone, we believe osmotic power will be an interesting part of the renewable energy mix of the future,"Statkraft Chief Executive Baard Mikkelsen told reportes.

Statkraft, Europe's largest producer of renewable energy with experience in hydropower that provides nearly all of Norway's electricity, aims to begin building commercial osmotic power plants by 2015.

The main issue is to improve the efficiency of the membrane from around 1 watt square meter now to some 5 watts, which Statkraft says would make osmotic power costs comparable to those frome other renewable sources.

The ptototype, on Oslo fjord and about 40 miles south of the Norwegian capital, has about 2,000 square meters of membrane.

Future full-scale plants producing 25 megawatts of electricity, enough to provide for 30,000 European households, would be as large as a football stadium and require some 5 million square meters of membrane,Statkraft said.

Once new membrane"architecture" is solved, Statekraft believes the global production capacity for osmotic energy could amount to 1,600 to 1,700 terawatt hours annually,or about half of the European Union's total electricity demand.

Europe's osmotic power potential is seen at 180 terawatts ,or about 5 percent of total consumption, which could he the bloc reach renewable energy goals set to curb emissions of heat-trapping gases and limit global warning.

Osmotic power, which can be located anywhere where clean fresh water runs,into the sea, is seen as more reliable than more variable wind or solar energy.

Microsoft warn of IE exploit code in the wil

Microsoft on Monday said it is investigating a possible vulnerability in Internet Explorer after exploit code that allegedly can be used to take control of computers, if they visit a Web site hosting the code, was posted to a security mailing list.

Microsoft confirmed that the exploit code affects IE 6 and IE7, but not IE8, and it said it is "currently unaware of any attacks trying to use the claimed vulnerability or of customer impact,"according to statement.The exploit code was published to the Bug Traq mailing list on Friday with no explanation.The exploit targets a vulnerability in the way Internet Explorer uses Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) information.CSS is used in many Web pages to define the presentation of the sites' content,"Symantec wrote ina blog post this weekend.

"The exploit currently exhibits signs of poor reliability, but we expect that a fully functional, reliable exploit will be available in the near future,"Symantec said.Symantec urges IE users to keep their antivirus software up-to-date,disable JavaScript, and visit only trusted can visit, until Microsoft issues a patch for the hole.

Anyone believed to have been affected can visit Microsoft's Consumer Security Support Center, report it to the Internet Crime Complaint Center, and contact the FBI or law enforcement in the particular country, Microsoft said U.S residents can also call Microsoft's PC Safety Customer Service and Support number at 1-866-727-2338.In July, critical holes in IE prompted Microsoft to issue a rare out-of-cycle(in other words, pre-Path Tuesday) fix.
